For Parents and Families Attempting to Survive After The Tragedy of Their Child, Grandchild, Sibling or Friend's Suicide
Suicide Survivor Links

I have taken great care in selecting sites and support groups that contain high quality information and support in a non-judgemental, non-biased environment. Any resource that does not allow freedom of speech or recommendation of other helpful resources will not be included. Survivors need to be able to express themselves freely and to be able to offer recommendations to other websites and groups that could assist them in the lifelong grieving process.
Fierce Goodbye  Folksinger Judy Collins hosts the documentary titled, Fierce Goodbye: Living in the Shadow of Suicide. Collins recently wrote a memoir, Sanity and Grace: A Journey of Suicide, Survival and Strength (J.P. Tarcher, 2003), which chronicles her journey as a survivor after the 1992 death of her 33-year-old son by suicide, and looks at family issues involving her own suicide attempt as a teen.

Friends & Families of Suicides SD  We are a support group for friends and family members of suicide victims. Together we will walk the journey to healing after the loss of our loved one's. Sharing our experiences and feelings in an attempt to help each other and offering hope.

Healing The Hurt  A wonderful British support community offering comfort and support to anyone who has lost a loved one to suicide.

HOPE for Suicide Attempters   This group is for those who have attempted suicide and for self-injurers. We are offering hope and friendship as a tool to prevent future attempts.

Living With Suicide  This site is designed as a place where survivors can talk openly.  Not to make suicide acceptable, but to be free of the stigma surrounding those who must cope.  And mainly it is here to ensure that, if we so choose, we don't have to cope in silence.

Memory Tree of Lights  The "Memory Tree of Lights" is a ministry which focuses on the Christmas holiday season and provides comfort, education, intervention and hope to people whose lives have been impacted by the loss of someone to suicide and who are overwhelmed by this loss during the Christmas season.

Parents of Suicides SD  A wonderful online support group for parents who have lost a child to suicide. Highly recommended.

Pips Project  PIPS was started in 2003 by Philip McTaggart, following the suicide of his son, Pip. The programme provided a clear vision and action plan for 20 members of PIPS, helping them to manage and improve the support. Part of the strategy that emerged from this, was to create Neighbourhood Response Teams.  It has provided training for 208 community volunteers in how to support bereaved families using ASIST – applied suicide intervention skills training.  The programme also helped PIPS to mentor and supervise the volunteers.

SACS (Surviving After Child Suicide)  SACS is affiliated to this site and is also run by Jan Andersen.  SACS is hosted by CommuniGate, who provide free pages to apolitical and non-profit-making organisations and charitable concerns.

SAOCS  (Surviving After Only Child Suicide) Our group is for parents who are suffering the suicide loss of an only child or all of their children. We recognise that a parent is the person who loved, cared for and supported their child or children. There are different names for parents.  Therefore, parents may be natural (biological), adoptive, step-parents or legal guardians of the child lost to suicide.  Together, sharing our experiences, we will walk the journey to healing, while offering hope and friendship.

Suicide - A Different Kind of Grief  A Norwegian site run by Kirsti Ottem, who lost her twin brother to suicide. Also in Norwegian.

Suicide and Mental Health Association International  SMHAI strives to be the most comprehensive and informative Survivor network available anywhere. With your help, it is possible! SMHAI allows Survivors to have a voice in what goes on in the field of suicide and to help shape the organisation.

Surviving After Child Suicide Message Forum

Surviving Suicide A website for healing after the loss of a loved one to suicide.

Surviving Siblings of Suicides SD   We are a support group exclusively for siblings suffering a loss after suicide. Together we will walk the journey of healing, sharing our experiences and offering hope.

Survivors of Bereavement by Suicide  SOBS (Survivors Of Bereavement by Suicide) is a British self-help, voluntary organisation. Many of those helping have, themselves, been bereaved by suicide.  They exist to meet the needs and break the isolation of those bereaved by the suicide of a close relative or friend.

Survivors of Suicide  The purpose of the Survivors Of Suicide web site is to help those who have lost a loved one to suicide resolve their grief and pain in their own personal way. An excellent site.

The Bereavement Journey  The Bereavement Journey is a place where anyone who has lost a loved one can find support.   As you travel on your bereavement journey we are here to help you every step of the way. Our promise to you is that the pain diminishes and you will one day find pleasure in life, although nothing can compare to the happiness that you had when your loved one was still alive. You will always love and miss your loved one until you meet them again. Until that time comes, may you find the support you need here.

The Most Difficult Journey Newsletter  This magazine is sent internationally and is available to mental health professionals, survivors, support group facilitators, researchers and most anyone with an overall interest in suicide and suicide related issues.  The magazine is dedicated to suicide prevention, awareness, education, grief and healing. It helps to rid the stigma of mental illness and suicide or suicide attempts and may open the door to help for those suffering with the pain of mental illness.

The Suicide Paradigm   The paradigm concept is the idea that in any field there is a set of assumptions shared by those in the field. Paradigms only change through radical and sudden shifts. These occur when new discoveries, knowledge, or concepts arise which cannot be rejected or assimilated by the old paradigm. The new paradigm supercedes the old paradigm.  The study of suicide involves a common paradigm. New findings are laying the groundwork for a new paradigm.

YOUTH-FFOS-of-SD    We are a support group exclusively for youth who are suffering from a suicide loss of a friend or family member. The membership is made up of 10-17 year olds. The unique connection of youths to suicide victims will be acknowledged and explored.

If you deny your grief, you deny the reality of the love you felt"
